![]() ![]() The Imperial Japanese Navy, remembered more for its commitment to a large carrier fleet and ultra-powerful battleship types, placed an emphasis on destroyer types as well and, in 1939, ordered an all-new experimental "super destroyer" named IJN Shimakaze. The naval powers of World War 2 (1939-1945) understood the value of such compact warships even as aircraft carriers, battleships, and submarines remained the call of the day. Armament and armor was typically balanced with the former becoming a collection of guns coupled with torpedo launching facilities - allowing for an appropriate response to be given against any potential target. They were planned as agile, fast vessels capable of deep/blue water service and exhibited good range for their size. How are they doing it? It is a LOT better gameplay than explained here. The destroyer warship was developed along the lines of fleet defender and also used in the escort role for lesser ships (namely merchants) as needed. I read all the threads on CA and torpedoes and never do I see one of these genius players explain. There is no time to respond, my rudder has only started to move, much less the ship turn. Sometimes, they drop either side of my BB, so close that I can't believe both sides arm, but they do. I know my problems, but I see some amazing torpedo skillz. So I see a LOT of criss-cross torpedo attacks from full flights of aircraft. So anyway, I am often the big easy target for the first or second wave of torpedo bombers. I know all the other guys have longer range so I try to sneak forward to where my guns can actually hit the other BB players. ![]() Half my games are against tier VlI and Vlll CA and I tend to get too far forward even though I am very slow. I am a USN BB player of one month's experience only. ![]()
